Larenz Tate says Hollywood values Black British actors more than American
Actor Larenz Tate, who has been in the entertainment industry since he was a child, recently shared his opinion on the value that Hollywood places on Black British actors. Speaking on the “Earn Your Leisure” podcast, Tate expressed his belief that the industry considers Black British actors to be more valuable than Black American actors.
Tate thinks that Hollywood’s preference for Black British actors has to do with the belief that they have a built-in audience overseas. He also feels that the industry is in love with all things British and is overlooking the talented Black American actors that are right here in the U.S.
Despite this, Tate doesn’t view the situation as a competition. He’s supportive of all Black actors, whether they’re from the U.S., the U.K., or anywhere else. Tate acknowledges that there are many talented rising Black British actors in the industry right now, such as Damson Idris, Daniel Ezra, and Daniel Kaluuya, who are doing a great job.
While Tate recognizes the decline in opportunities for Black American actors in Hollywood, he’s optimistic that things will change. Tate believes that talented actors will always find a way to rise to the top, regardless of where they come from.
