JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon made it clear during a staff meeting on Wednesday that the company will not reconsider its five-day, in-office work requirement—no matter how much opposition it faces.
“I don’t care how many people sign” a petition against the policy, Dimon said in a recording reviewed by Reuters, urging employees not to “waste time” fighting the mandate.
Timing Sparks Employee Frustration
The tense staff meeting came as JPMorgan began layoffs, marking the first of several expected rounds of job cuts. At the same time, the banking giant reported record-breaking profit and revenue in 2024, further frustrating employees facing both return-to-office (RTO) mandates and job uncertainty.
Dimon’s Stance on Remote Work
Dimon has been a vocal critic of remote work, repeatedly emphasizing that full in-office attendance is necessary for collaboration, mentorship, and productivity. While some competitors offer hybrid work models, JPMorgan has doubled down on its return-to-office policy.
As layoffs continue and tensions rise, Dimon’s uncompromising approach to workplace policies is sparking debate about the future of corporate work culture at Wall Street’s largest bank.
