Long Island Girl, 9, Attacked by Neighbor’s Pit Bull

A 9-year-old girl from Long Island, Daniella Schlauch, was the victim of a brutal attack by a neighbor’s pit bull, resulting in severe injuries including a partially detached ear and hundreds of staples.

The incident, which occurred in Bay Shore, left Daniella with life-threatening injuries, with her father, Pat Schlauch, recounting the harrowing experience of saving his daughter from the vicious dog.

As Daniella was getting out of the car outside their house, the pit bull charged at her, biting her face. Pat acted quickly to protect his daughter, jumping on the dog’s back and holding its head down to prevent further harm.

After the dog’s owner intervened and called the dog off, Daniella was rushed to the hospital with a concussion, extensive stitches and staples, and wounds to her head, hand, and foot. Part of her ear had to be reattached during the emergency treatment.

Speaking to reporters, Daniella described the terrifying ordeal, stating, “He pulled me down to the ground and wouldn’t let go. He was shaking my head violently.” Her father emphasized the severity of the attack, highlighting the numerous stitches and staples required to treat her injuries.

Following the incident, the Schlauch family is adamant about having the dog removed from the neighborhood permanently. They expressed concerns about the lack of proper containment measures, as the dog’s owners were also cited for not having a license for the animal.

Daniella’s mother, Teresa Schlauch, emphasized the fear of going outside their house due to the unrestrained dog potentially attacking someone else. The family has initiated legal proceedings by filing a dangerous dog application to address the situation promptly.

Daniella’s brother, George, raised issues about the dog’s history of escaping and the urgency of ensuring the safety of their community. Despite attempts to contact the owner for comments, there has been no response regarding the incident.

As the family awaits a resolution through legal channels, they continue to advocate for stricter measures to address dangerous animals in their neighborhood to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
