Lucasfilm has once again delighted fans with exciting announcements on the final day of the Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo. Among the surprises revealed was the upcoming release of nine new “Star Wars: Visions” shorts on Disney+ on October 29. Additionally, fans can look forward to a longform series titled “The Ninth Jedi,” which is a spinoff of a previous “Visions” short directed by Kenji Kamiyama.
During the event, James Waugh, Lucasfilm’s senior VP of franchise content and strategy, took the stage to announce “The Ninth Jedi” series, much to the delight of the audience. Kamiyama expressed his gratitude for the support and enthusiasm shown by fans for the adventures of Kara and Juro in “The Ninth Jedi” and the upcoming “Child of Hope.” He then revealed that Kara’s journey will continue in a new spinoff called “Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi.”
“Star Wars: Visions” originally premiered on Disney+ in 2021, featuring a collection of animated shorts that included “The Ninth Jedi.” The story follows the daughter of a lightsaber-smith who is pursued by dark forces while on a dangerous mission. The second season of shorts arrived in May 2023, with one installment titled “Screecher’s Reach” winning an Emmy Award for Directing in an Animated Television/Media Production.
The third volume of “Star Wars: Visions” will include a short film titled “Child of Hope,” which continues the story of Kara and Juro from “The Ninth Jedi.” While a premiere date for the longform series has not been announced yet, fans can expect more exciting developments in the future.
In addition to the “Star Wars: Visions” news, Disney and Lucasfilm also revealed plans for the popular game “Fortnite” to launch its biggest Star Wars-themed season yet with the release of “Galactic Battle” on May 2. This update will feature the fan-favorite character Darth Jar Jar, adding to the excitement surrounding upcoming TV, film, and gaming releases in the Star Wars franchise.
