Memoir ‘Careless People’ about Mark Zuckerberg, Sheryl Sandberg has strong first-week sales

A recent tell-all book by a former Meta official has caused quite a stir, selling 60,000 copies in its first week and landing in the top 10 of Amazon.com’s best-seller list. The book, titled “Careless People” by Sarah Wynn-Williams and published by Flatiron Books, makes shocking allegations against top executives like Mark Zuckerberg, Joel Kaplan, and Sheryl Sandberg, including claims of disturbing behavior and Zuckerberg’s alleged attempts to appease Chinese officials.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has been quick to discredit the book, accusing Wynn-Williams of breaching a severance agreement and spreading misinformation. Despite Meta’s efforts, “Careless People” continues to gain traction, ranking at No. 3 on Amazon just within its first week of release.

In response to Meta’s complaint, an emergency arbitrator placed restrictions on Wynn-Williams from making further critical claims about her former employer. However, Flatiron Books can still publish and promote the book, standing by its decision to support the author and her work.

Both Meta and Flatiron have issued statements regarding the arbitrator’s decision, with Meta calling the book “false and defamatory” and Flatiron denouncing Meta’s attempts to silence the author. The publisher remains committed to promoting “Careless People” and defending the allegations made in the book.

The book’s release was met with Meta’s scrutiny, with the company reaching out to media outlets like The Associated Press to question their coverage plans. This aggressive response from Meta has raised eyebrows, with critics noting the unusual tactics employed by the social media giant.
