Mets snapping NL East title drought matters for both 2025 and beyond

The New York Mets are on a mission in 2025: win the division. It’s been a decade since their last NL East title in 2015, and before that, they had to go all the way back to 2006 for their previous division win. For a team with a history of finishing last more often than first, the Mets are determined to change that narrative.
In the past 30 years, the Mets have only clinched the NL East twice, in 2006 and 2015. This pales in comparison to other teams in the division, like the Braves with 18 division titles, the Phillies with seven, and even the Nationals with four (five if you count their time as the Montreal Expos). Surprisingly, the Marlins, who joined the division in 1993, have yet to win an NL East title.
Brandon Nimmo, the longest-tenured current Met since 2016, has never experienced a division win with the team. He acknowledges the challenge ahead, stating, “It’s definitely something that I want to try and accomplish. It’s something that’s eluded teams that I’ve been on.”
As the 2025 season kicks off, there is a sense of urgency for the Mets to rise to the top of the NL East. With a competitive division and a history of falling short, the team is eager to break the cycle and claim the division crown. The road to success won’t be easy, but the Mets are determined to rewrite their story and bring home another NL East title.
