Mike Flanagan’s ‘Carrie’ TV Series Casts Summer H. Howell in Lead Role

Summer H. Howell is reportedly in talks to take on the lead role in Mike Flanagan’s upcoming “Carrie” TV series for Amazon. The news, exclusively reported by Variety, has fans buzzing with excitement.

While representatives for Amazon and Howell have remained tight-lipped about the negotiations, sources reveal that discussions are underway for Howell to star in the highly anticipated series. “Carrie” was first announced to be in development at Amazon in October 2024, and although no official announcement has been made regarding a series pickup, it is believed to be imminent. The show is based on Stephen King’s iconic novel of the same name.

The series is described as a “bold and timely reimagining of the story of misfit high-schooler Carrie White (played by Howell), who has lived a secluded life with her overbearing mother. Following her father’s sudden death, Carrie must navigate the challenges of public high school, a bullying scandal that rocks her community, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic abilities.”

Howell is no stranger to the horror genre, having appeared in films like “Curse of Chucky” and “Cult of Chucky” from the “Child’s Play” franchise. She has also showcased her talent in genre films such as “Hunter Hunter,” “Spirit in the Blood,” “Time Cut,” and “Harland Manor,” as well as in episodes of the horror anthology series “Channel Zero.” Additionally, Howell starred in the Disney+ film “Clouds,” based on the memoir “Fly a Little Higher: How God Answered a Mom’s Small Prayer in a Big Way” by Laura Sobiech.

Represented by The Characters Talent Agency and LINK Entertainment, Howell is set to bring her talent and versatility to the role of Carrie. Flanagan, known for his work on horror projects like “The Haunting of Hill House” and “Doctor Sleep,” will write, executive produce, and direct the series, with Trevor Macy also serving as an executive producer.

“Carrie” holds a special place in the world of horror, being King’s debut novel that was later adapted into a successful film in 1976, starring Sissy Spacek in the titular role. The film, directed by Brian DePalma, became a critical and commercial success, solidifying its place as one of the best horror films of all time. Since then, the character of Carrie has been portrayed onscreen by Angela Bettis in a 2002 TV movie and Chloë Grace Moretz in a 2013 remake.

As fans eagerly await more details about the “Carrie” TV series, the casting of Summer H. Howell in the lead role has certainly piqued interest and raised expectations for what promises to be a thrilling and captivating adaptation of King’s classic novel.
