Roku Acquires Exclusive Rights to Documentary on 1982 Milwaukee Brewers
Roku has made a significant move in the world of sports programming by acquiring the exclusive distribution rights to “Just a Bit Outside,” a feature documentary that delves into the captivating story of the 1982 Milwaukee Brewers. Viewers will have the opportunity to stream this documentary on The Roku Channel starting from April 11 to June 30.
According to David Eilenberg, Head of Content at Roku Media, “The Brewers have a rich history filled with incredible stories, and we’re honored to bring fans an in-depth look at one of the most memorable seasons in baseball. We’re excited to partner with Sean Hanish, Kelly Kahl, and the Cannonball team to deliver more premium sports content to our programming lineup.”
“Just a Bit Outside” paints a vivid picture of the 1982 Brewers season, showcasing an almost-Championship run by a unique group of ballplayers who formed a close-knit brotherhood both on and off the field. The documentary explores the love affair between a blue-collar city and a blue-collar team, a connection that still resonates over 40 years later.
Kelly Kahl, the producer of “Just a Bit Outside” and former head of CBS Entertainment, expressed his delight in collaborating with Roku on this project. Kahl praised Roku’s vast reach and dedication to sports programming, stating that their ability to promote and share the film with sports fans is unparalleled in today’s media landscape.
The documentary recently received acclaim at the Louisville International Film Festival, winning the title of best sports film. It features appearances by notable figures from the 1982 Brewers roster, including Bud Selig, Robin Yount, Ted Simmons, and many more.
Director and producer Sean Hanish expressed gratitude towards Roku for supporting independent filmmaking and innovative storytelling. Hanish thanked David Eilenberg and his team for making “Just a Bit Outside” accessible to baseball fans on The Roku Channel, especially with the premiere coinciding with the start of the baseball season.
“Just a Bit Outside” is a collaborative effort led by Hanish, with executive producer Derek Beamer and producers Kelly Kahl and Paul Jaconi-Biery from Cannonball Productions. The film has been edited and produced by Tim Calandrello, with former Brewer Gorman Thomas serving as an associate producer.
