Nurses at Emory Healthcare no longer employed after TikTok post
Emory Healthcare has disciplined four labor and delivery nurses after they posted a video on TikTok about patient behaviors they hate. The nurses, who are wearing Emory University healthcare uniforms in the video, recorded the clip to mimic a social media trend which requires people to reveal what gives them the “ick” about dating.
“My ick is when you ask me how much the baby weighs,” one of the nurses said, “and it’s still in your hands.”
“She said she didn’t want any pain medicine or epidural, but she was in a lot of pain.”
Another nurse in the clip said that it’s annoying when the dad comes outside and asks for a paternity test right outside the room door.
Many social media users said that the nurses lacked empathy for patients, and there was a lot of backlash.
One person said, “I’m pregnant with my first and I don’t know how to feel about this video.” I hate it when people who work in healthcare lack compassion for patients.
In a statement on Instagram, Emory Healthcare said it took “appropriate actions” against the nurses. The statement described the nurses as “former employees,” although the Georgia-based university system didn’t clarify the exact consequences.
The organization stated that they were aware of the TikTok video that included disrespectful and unprofessional comments about maternity patients. “This video does not reflect our dedication to patient- and family-centered care and does not meet the values and standards we expect every member of our team to uphold.”
The controversial video was posted on a TikTok account which was then deactivated amid the backlash, but then reactivated.
