Sanfic Industria Bows Queer Incubator, Chile Industry Academy

Sanfic Industria, the renowned industry meet in Chile, has introduced two new sections to enhance diversity in Latin American filmmaking and TV creation while expanding its international reach. The first new section is the Queer Incubator: Latin America, a development program that focuses on promoting queer narratives and supporting directors and screenwriters across the region. Industry experts will mentor six selected projects that aim to develop dissident, queer, or non-normative film and TV storytelling.

In collaboration with Switzerland’s Locarno Film Festival, the Chile Industry Academy will offer a program that emphasizes the craft of international distribution, programming, and marketing. Unlike traditional production-focused programs, this academy will provide valuable insights from seasoned practitioners, enhancing the skills and knowledge of participants who are already active agents and distributors in the industry. This initiative is expected to strengthen Sanfic Industria’s influence in the industry by 2025.

The call for applications for the Queer Incubator and other sections, including the Ibero-American Works in Progress, Santiago Lab, and Sanfic-Morbido Lab, has been announced. These sections aim to support a diverse range of projects, from genre development to fiction and documentary works. The inclusion of the Series Lab Fiction/Documentary and the Sanfic ODS Lab highlights the commitment to fostering talent and promoting inclusivity within the industry.

Gabriela Sandoval, director of Sanfic Industry and founder of Sanfic, emphasized the importance of promoting diversity and providing equitable access to development opportunities in the audiovisual industry. She stated that Sanfic Industria has always been a platform for training, development, and strategic partnerships in Ibero-American audiovisual production. The addition of the Queer Incubator reaffirms their commitment to creating a more inclusive and representative industry.

The 2025 edition of Sanfic Industria promises to be a dynamic and diverse event, showcasing a wide range of projects and initiatives that aim to elevate Latin American filmmaking and TV creation on the global stage. With a focus on nurturing talent, promoting diversity, and fostering collaboration, Sanfic Industria continues to be a leading force in the industry.
