Settlement Reached in Kenneka Jenkins’ Hotel Freezer Death
The family of Kenneka Jenkins, who tragically died in a hotel freezer in 2017, has reached a $10 million settlement, of which they will receive $6.4 million. The rest covers attorney fees and funeral costs. Jenkins’ mother, Tereasa Martin, will receive $3.7 million, with two other relatives receiving $1.5 million and $1.2 million each. The settlement, originally sealed, was disclosed as the case was poised for trial. The controversy surrounding Jenkins’ death sparked widespread discussion about potential foul play and the handling of the case by the police. Jenkins, 19, was found dead at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel, with the Medical Examiner’s Office ruling the death an accident caused by hypothermia, exacerbated by alcohol and medication in her system.
