‘Sex Lives of College Girls’ Canceled After Three Seasons at Max

The popular Max series “Sex Lives of College Girls” has unfortunately been canceled, as confirmed by Variety. The show, which aired for three seasons on the Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service, saw its final season debut in November and concluded on Jan. 25. Originally premiering on Max in 2021, the series was co-created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble under Kaling’s overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. The show follows a group of college students at New England’s prestigious Essex College.
Season 3 featured a talented cast including Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur, Alyah Chanelle Scott, Christopher Meyer, Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, Renika Williams, Gracie Lawrence, and Mia Rodgers. Reneé Rapp, a series regular in the first two seasons, made only a recurring appearance in Season 3 and announced her departure from the show after the season concluded. Kaling and Noble served as executive producers, with Noble also taking on the role of showrunner. Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment was also an executive producer, with Kaling producing through Kaling International. The studio behind the series was WBTV.
While Max does not typically release viewership data for its originals, the first two seasons of “Sex Lives of College Girls” received high critical acclaim. Season 1 and 2 both earned impressive Rotten Tomatoes approval ratings of 97% and 93%, respectively. However, Season 3 did not fare as well with just a 29% approval rating based on seven critics’ reviews.
Max’s current original comedy lineup includes successful shows like “Hacks,” gearing up for its fourth season, “And Just Like That,” preparing for its third season, and “Peacemaker,” set to air its second season later this year. Deadline was the first to report the unfortunate news of the show’s cancellation.
Fans of the series will surely be disappointed by this development, but Max continues to offer a diverse range of original content for viewers to enjoy. Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming shows and projects from the streaming service.
