Siemens exec and his family identified as victims in deadly Hudson helicopter crash

An unfortunate incident took place on Thursday when a tourist helicopter crashed into New York City’s Hudson River, claiming the lives of all onboard, including an executive of Siemens, a European technology company, his wife, and their three young children.
Agustin Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their children aged 4, 5, and 11 were among the victims of the tragic crash, along with the 36-year-old pilot, as reported by law enforcement sources to ABC News.
Escobar, who held a leadership position in Siemens’ division in Spain and Southwest Europe since 2022, was praised by the former head of Siemens’ Spanish arm, Miguel Ángel López, for his significant contributions to the company’s success.
The family, hailing from Barcelona, Spain, was visiting New York City at the time of the accident, as confirmed by two Spanish officials to ABC News. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed his condolences, calling the news “devastating” and offering sympathy to the loved ones of the victims.
The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the circumstances that led to the tragic crash, which occurred when the helicopter, chartered from New York Helicopters, went down in the Hudson River just 15 minutes after departing from the Wall St. Heliport in New Jersey.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed his condolences, stating, “Our hearts go out to the family and those on board,” during a press briefing following the incident.
The helicopter, identified as a Bell 206, was on its sixth flight of the day when it crashed into the river, overturning in the 50-degree water. Rescue workers arrived at the scene to find the helicopter submerged in the river.
As the investigation continues into the cause of the crash, the community mourns the loss of the lives taken too soon in this tragic event. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.
