Some liquid egg products recalled as they may include bleach, USDA warns. Here’s what to know.

As egg prices continue to rise, health officials are taking steps to address a potential issue with liquid egg products. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued a recall for some Egg Beaters and Bob Evans liquid egg products due to a possible contamination with a cleaning solution containing bleach. The products, totaling 212,268 pounds, were produced on March 12 and March 13 by Cargill Kitchen Solutions in Lake Odessa, Michigan.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service was alerted to the potential contamination and stated that although consuming the products may not lead to adverse health effects, it is best to err on the side of caution. Cargill Kitchen Solutions emphasized that no illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled products. The affected products were distributed to food-service customers in several states, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas. The company has set up a consumer hotline for any inquiries related to the recall.
Consumers are advised not to consume the recalled products, and restaurants are urged not to serve them. The USDA recommends disposing of the items or returning them to the place of purchase. The recalled products include Egg Beaters Original Liquid Egg Substitute, Egg Beaters Cage-free Original Liquid Egg Substitute, Egg Beaters Cage-free Original Frozen Egg Substitute, and Bob Evans Better’n Eggs Made with Real Egg Whites. These items bear the establishment number “G1804” on the carton.
In light of the recall, it is crucial for consumers to remain vigilant and prioritize food safety. By following the guidelines set forth by the USDA and the manufacturer, individuals can help prevent any potential health risks associated with the contaminated products. Stay informed and stay safe when it comes to the food you consume.
