Sony Michel released by the Miami Dolphins

With final roster cutdown day looming, a number of NFL teams are making moves, including releasing some well-known veterans. The Miami Dolphins are one such team, and have decided to release running back Sony Michel.

Michel was drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2018 NFL season, and was a core component of their run to Super Bowl LIII. As the Patriots turned to the ground game down the stretch, Michel was a focal point of their offense, gaining 129 yards on 29 carries and scoring three touchdowns in New England’s Divisional Round win over the Los Angeles Chargers.

Michel also scored the only touchdown of Super Bowl LIII in the win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Michel would join the Rams prior to the 2021 season, when New England traded him to Los Angeles in exchange for a pair of late-round draft picks. He appeared in all 17 games for the Rams in 2021, making 7 starts, and gained 845 yards on 208 rushing attempts, scoring 4 touchdowns.

In the run to Super Bowl LVI, Michel played in all four postseason games for Los Angeles, gaining 80 yards on 26 carries.

He was signed by the Dolphins this offseason, but in a crowded running back room, Michel is the odd-man out.
