Stephen Curry carries Jimmy Butler-less Warriors to pivotal Game 3 win

The Golden State Warriors took a 2-1 lead in their first-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets with a 104-93 victory on Saturday night. Despite missing Jimmy Butler due to injury, Stephen Curry stepped up with 36 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds to lead the Warriors to the win.

Curry, known for his clutch performances in the playoffs, found his shooting touch after a slow start. Buddy Hield provided a spark off the bench with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, while Gary Payton II chipped in with 16 points, 11 of which came in the fourth quarter.

The absence of Butler, who suffered a pelvic injury and deep gluteal muscle contusion in Game 2, was felt by the Warriors. The team missed his versatility and leadership on the court, but they were able to overcome his absence with strong performances from their role players.

Fred VanVleet led the way for the Rockets with 17 points, while Alperen Sengun added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Despite their efforts, the Rockets couldn’t contain Curry and the Warriors, who now hold a 2-1 series lead.

Game 4 is set for Monday night at Chase Center, where the Warriors will look to extend their lead. The biggest question heading into the game is whether Butler will be able to return from his injury in time to make an impact.

Curry’s performance in Game 3 also saw him move up the all-time playoff scoring list, passing Tony Parker for the 10th spot. The 37-year-old star showcased his scoring prowess with a 13-point second quarter that helped the Warriors erase a double-digit deficit and take the lead.

The game was not without controversy, as Dillon Brooks fouled out late in the game after a heated exchange with Amen Thompson and Draymond Green. The animosity between the two teams was evident throughout the game, with both sides playing with a competitive edge.

Despite their recent struggles at home, the Warriors were able to secure a crucial victory in Game 3. With their sights set on advancing in the playoffs, they will look to build on their performance and secure another win in Game 4 against the Rockets.
