Suspect in murder of fiancé searched online about killing an “illegal immigrant,” Texas police say

A tragic incident in Baytown, Texas has left the community in shock as a man has been charged with the murder of his fiancé. Ty Vaughn, 31, was engaged to Luis Banos, 27, and the couple resided in a suburb of Houston. The devastating events unfolded on January 14, 2025, when officers responded to a call from Vaughn reporting that he had found Banos dead from a gunshot wound in their apartment.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities detained Vaughn for questioning as his statements appeared inconsistent. The investigation took a disturbing turn when evidence surfaced that Vaughn had made unsettling online searches, including inquiries about the legality of killing an illegal immigrant. The Houston Chronicle even reported that Vaughn had referred to Banos as an “illegal” during questioning.
Further evidence found at the scene raised suspicions, such as blood on the couple’s bed despite Banos being discovered in a different area of the home. Prosecutors noted that the scene had been tampered with, pointing to possible foul play. As a result, Vaughn was arrested and charged with murder on March 7. He appeared in court where his bond was set at $500,000, and he is currently being held at the Harris County Sheriff’s Department Detention Facility awaiting his next court date on April 30.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the crime to come forward. This heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many grappling with the senseless loss of a young life.
