New Zealand’s Tim Seifert showcased his power-hitting skills against Pakistan in the second T20I at the University Oval in Dunedin. Seifert took Shaheen Shah Afridi to the cleaners by smashing four sixes in an over, totaling 26 runs and putting the home side in a commanding position during the run-chase of 136.
After Afridi bowled a maiden to start the innings, Seifert took charge in his second over. The right-handed batter started by hitting one straight down the ground, followed by a shot over extra cover. Despite a dot ball in the mix, Seifert managed to pinch a couple of runs before finishing the over with two more maximums. Afridi’s figures at the end of the over stood at 2-1-26-0.
Finn Allen had already set the tone for the run-chase by hitting three sixes in the second over bowled by Mohammad Ali. Seifert, who departed for a quickfire 45 off 22 balls, and Allen’s contributions paved the way for New Zealand to secure a five-wicket victory and take a 2-0 lead in the series. Mohammad Ali managed to dismiss Seifert but had already leaked 16 runs before taking the wicket. Jahandad Khan also accounted for the dismissal of Allen, who scored 38 off just 16 deliveries.
Despite losing a few wickets, the Black Caps comfortably chased down the target in just 13.1 overs, with Mark Chapman, James Neesham, and Daryl Mitchell also contributing to the victory. The coin toss favored New Zealand once again as they chose to field first. Pakistan managed to post a total of 135 in their allotted 15 overs, with Salman Agha top-scoring with 46 runs. However, it wasn’t enough to stop New Zealand from securing a victory.
The third T20I between the two teams is scheduled to take place on March 21 in Auckland. As New Zealand continues their dominant form in the series, Pakistan will be looking to bounce back and put up a better performance in the upcoming match.
