TransPerfect Acquires Parts of MPC, The Mill

TransPerfect, a language translation and AI tech business, has made a significant acquisition by taking over the France-based studios of The Mill and MPC, two well-known global VFX brands previously owned by Technicolor. Technicolor faced financial difficulties and closed its doors in February, impacting thousands of employees worldwide.

The deal with TransPerfect includes retaining approximately 120 employees from the acquired studios, with the terms of the agreement remaining undisclosed. Despite the change in ownership, TransPerfect plans to maintain the brand names The Mill and MPC for its operations in France, ensuring a smooth transition for team members and customers.

MPC, headquartered in London, was actively working on projects like Disney’s “Lilo and Stitch” and Paramount’s “Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning” before the shutdown. It is unclear if the France-based team was involved in these specific projects at the time. This acquisition expands TransPerfect’s services to include visual effects, complementing its recent acquisitions of Technicolor Games and Blu Digital Group.

Following Technicolor’s closure, other companies have seized opportunities in the VFX industry. Rodeo FX acquired Technicolor’s Mikros Animation, and a group of former employees from The Mill’s U.S. operations established ARC Creative, a creative studio supported by VFX group Dream Machine FX.

TransPerfect’s move into the VFX market signifies its continued growth and diversification within the tech industry. By integrating the expertise and resources of The Mill and MPC into its operations, TransPerfect is poised to deliver innovative solutions to its clients across various sectors. Stay tuned for more updates on TransPerfect’s expansion and the evolving landscape of the VFX industry.
