Travis Scott is preparing to embark on his first tour since the unfortunate Astroworld event in 2021 that resulted in 10 fatalities.
On August 8, Scott, 32, shared on Instagram, accompanied by a poster, that the tour is titled “Utopia Presents Circus.” He expressed his eagerness to return to the road, hinting at upcoming US and European dates.
The specifics of the tour dates remain undisclosed. However, Scott is slated to showcase his recent “Utopia” album in cities across North America like Boston, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Vancouver, among others, as reported by Pitchfork. The media outlet highlighted September 25 at Chicago’s United Center as the inaugural show, culminating on November 27 at Miami’s Kaseya Center. Notably, these tour dates, first announced by Live Nation, were later removed from their posts.
This tour announcement followed his August 7 performance in Rome, during which he played tracks from “Utopia” and was joined by Kanye West for renditions of “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” and “Praise God.” Scott lauded West, declaring the influence and impact West has had on his career and music.
While Scott has graced festival stages and played occasional concerts over the recent years, the “Utopia Presents Circus Tour” signifies his most significant series of U.S. concerts post the Astroworld Festival incident in November 2021. Tragically, during that festival in Houston, Texas, at NRG Park, a crowd surge led to a devastating event that took ten lives and injured over 100 attendees.
Sources conveyed that the unexpected crowd movement was a result of attendees seeking safety. Scott reportedly halted his act multiple times to understand the situation and instructed aid for distressed attendees. He stopped the show once made aware of the gravity of the situation.
In a comprehensive talk with Charlamagne tha God on YouTube in December 2021, Scott shared his perspective on the tragic incident. He asserted that he was in the dark about the full scope of the situation until shortly before a subsequent press briefing. He discussed the inherent challenges of gauging an entire crowd’s situation from the stage, highlighting his proactive approach when sensing any issues.
The incident, Scott shared, took a significant emotional toll on him. The connection he feels to his fans magnified the impact, leading him to empathize deeply with everyone affected, from attendees and their families to the broader community.
