U.S. Supreme Court Declines to Hear Michael Cohen’s Appeal in Lawsuit Against Donald Trump
The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear Michael Cohen’s attempt to revive his lawsuit against former President Donald Trump, delivering a setback to Trump’s former personal attorney. Cohen had filed a lawsuit claiming that Trump and his administration retaliated against him, leading to his return to prison after he was initially released due to COVID-19 concerns.
Cohen, who pleaded guilty to several crimes including campaign finance violations related to hush-money payments, had argued that his re-imprisonment in 2020 was politically motivated. He contended that he was sent back to jail because he was writing a tell-all book about Trump, violating his First Amendment rights.
The case had drawn widespread attention, as Cohen’s allegations were part of a larger narrative of his falling out with Trump after years of close association. However, lower courts dismissed Cohen’s claims, and the Supreme Court’s decision not to hear the case effectively ends his legal battle on this front.
Despite the setback, Cohen remains a vocal critic of Trump and has continued to speak out about his time working as Trump’s lawyer, as well as his experiences during the federal investigations that followed.
