The powerful earthquake struck central Myanmar, resulting in the loss of over 1,000 lives in the country. Additionally, at least 10 deaths were reported in Bangkok following the earthquake and aftershock.

The earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, caused widespread destruction in central Myanmar, including the collapse of buildings, bridges, and roads. The isolated state has issued a rare plea for international aid to assist in the recovery efforts.
Although Myanmar was once a British colony, it is not a part of the Commonwealth bloc of nations led by King Charles III. The monarch, who recently underwent cancer treatment, reassured well-wishers of his health by waving to them on Friday.
