Uvalde Shooter’s Uncle Pleaded to Intervene, New 911 Recordings Reveal
In a newly released collection of audio and video recordings, the uncle of the Uvalde, Texas, school shooter made a desperate plea to police, asking to intervene and talk his nephew down during the tragic May 2022 massacre that claimed the lives of 19 children and two teachers.
In the 911 call, Armando Ramos, who identified himself as the shooter’s uncle, implored authorities to let him try to communicate with his nephew, Salvador Ramos. “Maybe he could listen to me, because he does listen to me — everything I tell him, he does listen to me,” Ramos said during the call. He hoped that his intervention might convince the shooter to stand down or surrender peacefully.
The recordings also include frantic calls to 911 as the shooter arrived at Robb Elementary School. In one, a distressed woman reported, “Oh, my God, they have a gun,” urgently asking dispatchers to “Please hurry!”
The release of these recordings provides a chilling glimpse into the chaotic and heartbreaking moments surrounding the shooting, highlighting the desperate attempts by family members and witnesses to prevent the tragedy.
