Val Kilmer Asked Will Forte to Do ‘The Amazing Race’ Together

Will Forte Pays Tribute to Late Friend Val Kilmer in Emotional Essay
Will Forte penned a heartfelt first-person essay for Vulture in memory of his dear friend Val Kilmer, who passed away on April 1 at the age of 65 due to pneumonia. The two actors shared the screen in Forte’s 2010 comedy “MacGruber,” where Kilmer portrayed the villainous Dieter von Cunth. Forte recalled how Kilmer went above and beyond for him on set, even going as far as giving him the shirt off his back.
Their friendship blossomed during the filming of “MacGruber,” leading to a memorable living arrangement. Forte shared that when Kilmer had a dispute with his landlord in Malibu, he asked to move in with him. The two ended up living together for two and a half months, during which Forte introduced Kilmer to reality TV, particularly “The Amazing Race,” a show that Kilmer became deeply engrossed in.
Forte fondly reminisced about a missed opportunity to participate in “The Amazing Race” with Kilmer, a decision he now regrets. He expressed his disappointment, stating, “I think we would’ve gotten out very quickly, but it just would’ve been the experience of a lifetime.”
In the aftermath of Kilmer’s passing, tributes from his colleagues and friends have poured in. Tom Cruise, Kilmer’s co-star in “Top Gun,” honored him at CinemaCon, requesting a moment of silence in his memory. Cruise spoke highly of Kilmer’s talent and expressed his gratitude for their collaborations on the “Top Gun” franchise.
Forte concluded his essay by reflecting on the many cherished memories he shared with Kilmer and the regret of not having more time to create new ones. He highlighted Kilmer’s dedication to his craft and the impact he had on those around him.
