Wanted driver in stolen truck leads SoCal cops on destructive high-speed chase
A dramatic high-speed pursuit unfolded in Southern California as a man wanted by police drove a stolen flatbed truck, weaving in and out of traffic and causing chaos on the roads. The wild chase began near the Harbor Freeway and Adams Street in downtown Los Angeles on a Friday afternoon. The driver reached speeds of over 100 mph as he recklessly maneuvered through streets and freeways, sideswiping cars and crashing into others along the way.
The hour-long pursuit, captured on SkyCal footage, showed the erratic driver putting pedestrians and other motorists at risk as he evaded capture. At one point, he narrowly missed hitting a bus at a busy intersection in Pico Rivera and even drove on a sidewalk to avoid traffic. The chase continued through Santa Fe Springs, Norwalk, and other communities on Interstate 605, with the driver clipping multiple cars and driving on the shoulder of the road.
The chase came to a dramatic end when the driver ran a red light and crashed into at least two cars, ultimately crashing into a metal rail in the parking lot of a Sherwin-Williams Paints store on Termino Avenue in Long Beach. Despite the crash, the suspect managed to exit the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. However, law enforcement officers quickly apprehended him a few blocks from the crash site near 7th Avenue and Miramar in Long Beach.
The suspect was taken into custody around 3:45 p.m., just five minutes after the pursuit ended. During the takedown, at least one officer was injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. As of now, no charges have been filed against the suspect. The extent of the damage caused to other vehicles, injuries sustained by individuals involved, and the reason for the police pursuit remain unknown.
