What to know about Trump’s health as he undergoes latest physical

President Donald Trump underwent his annual physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, marking his first such exam of his second term. At 78 years old, he became the oldest president to be sworn into office. Trump expressed on Truth Social that he has never felt better, but emphasized the importance of these routine check-ups.

The public has not received a detailed look into Trump’s health since 2018. During the 2024 presidential campaign, he did not provide any details about his health despite previous promises to do so. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt assured reporters that the president’s physician will provide an update on the report for transparency, sharing as many results as possible as soon as they can.

In his last official presidential checkup in January 2018, Trump was deemed to be in excellent cardiovascular shape for his age by then-White House physician Dr. Ronny Jackson. He had some medical issues such as high cholesterol, rosacea, and being considered overweight based on his BMI. Trump’s cholesterol levels were a bit high, with his LDL cholesterol at 143 and total cholesterol at 223, above the recommended levels.

Trump’s BMI was calculated at 29.9, just under the obesity classification. He was taking medication for high cholesterol and male-pattern hair loss, as well as daily aspirin for heart disease prevention. Trump also applied a cream for rosacea and underwent a cognitive assessment with a perfect score.

In October 2020, Trump was hospitalized after contracting COVID-19. He received treatment with monoclonal antibodies and steroids before returning to the White House after three days. Despite the lack of detailed health updates, a letter from his personal physician in 2018 described Trump’s overall health as excellent.

An attempt on Trump’s life occurred at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024. Gunfire erupted, resulting in the death of a Trump supporter and injuries to Trump and others. Former White House physician Ronny Jackson claimed to have reviewed Trump’s medical records, which showed treatment for a gunshot wound to the right ear. Trump’s campaign did not release the records, but another letter from Jackson indicated that Trump was recovering well.

In conclusion, Trump’s health remains a topic of interest and scrutiny, with periodic check-ups shedding light on his overall well-being. The transparency of his medical records and updates continues to be a point of contention and curiosity among the public.
