World War II veteran turns 108
Willie “Bill” Dawson is a 108-year-old World War II veteran from St. Louis, Missouri. “The secret to a long life, according to him, is staying active all the time,”
As a member of the 92nd Infantry Division, Dawson fought in World War II as a Buffalo Soldier when he was young. He spent 17 months fulfilling his duty overseas in Italy.
He has also been active at church for over 90 years where he has ushered and held multiple official roles, according to him in his personal life. He was a member and president of the Male Chorus for more than 2 decades, and the chorus was later named after him.
He continued to deliver Meals on Wheels until he was 85 years old. He was chosen to throw out the first pitch at a St. Louis Cardinals Major League baseball game at the age of 103.
He has maintained his house until now, which is famous in the neighborhood for having the largest and prettiest flower garden in the summer and elaborate decorations in the holidays.
Dawson also emphasized the importance of his family for his longevity, aside from that. He was married to his wife Doris for 61 years until she died. They have 3 children, 2 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson.
