Youth centre brings Muslims together to break fast

During the spiritual month of Ramadan, a local group in Queenstown has established a heartwarming tradition of giving back to the community. Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is observed by fasting from sunrise to sunset as a form of worship and gratitude for life’s blessings. It is a time for Muslims to reflect, renew their faith, and engage in acts of charity.

The My Fund Action Youth Development Centre (MYDC), a non-profit organization focused on youth development, has been actively serving the community, particularly during Ramadan. In collaboration with The Komunal Cafe, a local Malaysian restaurant, MYDC hosted a series of iftar dinners in Queenstown, open to both Muslims and non-Muslims. These iftars aimed to promote inclusivity and community spirit, allowing individuals to break their fast together at sunset.

One notable iftar featured a lavish buffet of Malaysian dishes, including fried noodles, beef rendang, and pandan-flavored desserts, hosted by MYDC trustee Habib Ali. Attendees, including Muslims breaking their fast and supportive non-Muslims, gathered at the youth space for a memorable evening of unity and cultural exchange. The event received positive feedback, with participants expressing gratitude for the opportunity to experience iftar traditions and diverse cuisine.

As Muslims transition from Ramadan to Eid, a joyful holiday marked by festivities and family gatherings, MYDC remains committed to empowering youth year-round. The organization offers opportunities in entrepreneurship, academics, project management, and communications, providing a platform for young people from diverse backgrounds to volunteer and gain valuable experience.

Looking ahead, MYDC aims to continue the tradition of Ramadan iftars, building on the success of bringing people together in a spirit of unity and generosity. Additionally, through collaborations with global non-profit My Fund Action, MYDC supports efforts to deliver food and medical aid to communities in need, extending their impact beyond local borders.

As the youth space remains open for ongoing engagement and participation, MYDC continues to inspire and uplift young individuals, fostering a culture of service and community involvement.
